The Movember Foundation is a global non-profit charity committed to men living happier, healthier, longer lives. It began in Australia in 2003 to raise awareness for prostate and testicular cancers and since then, millions have joined the movement, raising over 400 million dollars and funding over 1,000 programes.
The idea behind Movember is to grow mustache in November and not shave it before the end of the month in order to change appearance and trigger conversations about the cause. Sounds simple but easier said than done especially with mustache not being necessary in-style these days.
Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in men, behind only lung cancer. Prevention and early diagnosis is the key but the topic has always been considered as tabu, something the “real men” do not discuss. According to statistics 1 man in 7 will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime and 1 of 38 men will die. Talking and raising money for the charity is at least we can do.
